I lead the core banking and treasury systems platforms, working with my team on transformations, migrations and integrations. Basically, we change the engine while the plane is flying, and the passengers keep checking their balance.
I looked after architecture and support for treasury across the front, middle and back office, and supported users with Murex issues. In treasury, every problem is urgent and every minute has a price tag.
Ten years putting in and supporting payment systems: SWIFT, RTGS, payment hub, AML and their friends. I watched a lot of money leave, and it never once said goodbye.
I ran infrastructure, engineering systems and computer labs for the College of Engineering & Petroleum. This is where I mastered the most powerful words in IT: have you tried turning it off and on again?
I went to high school in Egypt, then on to Modern Academy, where I led my graduation project team and we earned an A+. They were good years. I came back to Kuwait in 2006, and the A+ came with me.
Outside work I’m usually working on my apps or learning a new technology, and I read when I find the time. I also keep fit at the gym, mostly to earn my next visit to Food Street.
Coffee comes first, and nothing is open for discussion until then. After that, give me Italian food or a good plate of meat. Salad is welcome to watch.
Travel is one of my favourite things, so there’s always a plane ready to leave. No queues, no baggage fees, and every seat is a window seat.
This is my world tour. I love to travel, so I went from Rome to Kuala Lumpur and brought the best sights back, all conveniently within walking distance. Explore as long as you like, then take the plane home. No visa needed.
